About Our Speaker:

Richard is Vice President of Engineering Technology for CH2M HILL’s Power Group.  Prior positions include President of the Ben Holt Company and Manager of the Technical & Engineering Services Division for TIC-The Industrial Company.

Richard is currently President of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), a position he also held in 1995 – 96.  He has also served as President of the Los Angeles Section of GRC, Director of the International Geothermal Association, and Chairman of the Southern California Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.  Richard has a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Caltech and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Davis.

In 2000, Richard received GRC’s prestigious Aidlin Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Geothermal Energy.  In 2009 he also received GRC’s Ben Holt Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Design and Construction of Geothermal Power Plants.  Richard designed the process for the world’s first air-cooled geothermal binary cycle power plant at Mammoth Lakes, California.  He also holds a patent for a method of treating geothermal steam containing hydrogen sulfide.
